Welcome to the home of UE Local 893 - Iowa United Professionals. We’re a democratic, member-run, independent union. Our members include hundreds of social workers, income maintenance workers, environmental specialists, vocational rehabilitation workers, correctional counselors, county road crews, school district support staffs, municipal employees and many others. We are united by our dedication to the idea of real rank-and-file unionism. Our motto is "The Members Run This Union"— and we mean it!

We believe that Iowa is best served by a public sector that can respond to the needs of the citizens. We engage in independent political action to fight for the right to do our jobs effectively with the resources we need to do them well. Improved standards of programs and jobs don’t just happen because of state benevolence, but due to many voices that are organized into one voice which makes a clear statement of our needs and the community’s priorities.
